Nico Baird, who gave away the 1 year free hosting prize from Wookio at PodCamp, was not able to get in touch with the prize winner for their details so that the hosting could be activated.   With the hesteria on the day, I did not get in touch with the prize winner myself.  If you won the hosting on the day, can you please notify me via e-mail so that I can pass your details to Nico?

I woke up this morning with a lekker headache, dry mouth, tired - but with the thought that yesterday was a really great day in SA.  A great day of ubuntu where all South Africans united together under the banner of sport.  The sounding of car hooters, people screaming “go bokke go” was heard a good couple of hours before the start of the RWC Final.  Once again, I was pround to be South African.

Not only did we win the Rugby World Cup for a second time, matching Aus’s record of 2 RWC wins, but I am happy to say that PodCampCapeTown was a resounding success and if you were there yesterday, I want to thank you for making it such a great day.  There was a great mix of topics covered during the presentations, a great mix of people, a great mix of everything - even an iBurst receiver sitting right at the top of a tree which helped to deliver net access to all.

If you were not there yesterday, you really missed out and I think you can kick yourself twice for missing out.  Of course Zoopy, MyVideo and others made sure that everything was captured on video and we should see the first clips go online soon.

Well, it is a Friday and I’ve taken the day off work.  Why?  Because I can.  No, only kidding .. got some PodCamp stuff to do like prepare the ultra cool slide show that will greet everybody when they walk in as well as prepare (just in case nobody else is going to do one) a short talk on “How to create a podcast” and I’ll be using Audacity.  My headset - the one where one of the arms that holds the one earpiece is stuck together with tape is ready to go - holding a mic and trying to do an on-hand demo just won’t work.

Oh, and I’ve bought cable so that I can haul my DSTV decoder together with all the audio gear outside for the rugby world cup final that evening.  Hopefully, no wind will be blowing.. Blouberg - no wind.  miracles DO happen in summer.

But please remember to bring the following to PodCamp

• Your laptop, audio gear, video cameras, digital cameras and anything you can use to capture the event.
• Extension cord and multiplug (we’ll never have too many)
• Moula for food and drink
• If you are going to speak, what ever you need to help you in your talk.
• Yourself - oh, please don’t foget that.

I’ve also had many questions on how it is going to work regarding the speaking part.  When you arrive, there will be a whiteboard with slots drawn on it.  Just jot your name down at what slot you want to talk in.  That’s it.  There will be a projector and PA system.  This is an open event, so if you want to speak on a topic related to new media, the mic is open for you.

With the brilliant victory of the boks last night combined with the fever of PodCamp, Saturday is coming closer and closer.

Firstly, I would like to welcome AV Direct as one of our sponsors.  They have kindly sponsored a PA system for the day!   Thanks very much Rowan.

Secondly, lunch.   Believe me, we are all going to be hungry by lunch time.  We were unable to get a sponsor to cover lunch.   We have asked The Wild Fig to make lunch available for us to order, so please bring money with you since lunch will be on your account.

I’ll be getting more details as to what lunch options are going to be made available to order.  I’ll be posting all this info onto the website, so keep your eyes open on the site for all the details.   Their prices seem to be reasonable and I’ll try and negotiate as much as possible.

Now that is what many of us hear when we listen to the classic track from The Clash - Rock the Casbah, but in PodCampCapeTown’s case, that is exactly what it is - a cash bar. Yep, one thing that Chris Brogan said to Max and I on the phone one evening when we asked the question “what worked well at PodCamp?” and the answer was - BEER, and lots of it! It is in that spirit that we asked for the bar to be open at The Wild Fig. As much as we would of loved to get a booze sponsor, unfortunately the cost of the drinks is on you. So remember to bring cash for the cash bar.

We also want to remind you that if you are going to bring your laptop, etc, PLEASE, bring extension leads and multiplugs. We want to make sure that everybody is powered up and ready to go. Of course net access is not going to be a problem.

On the progress of things as we gear towards the 20th of October, things are looking great. We have managed to secure sponsorships for virtually all costs so far, except our midday lunch. So if you are willing to help sponsor lunch for all attendees or know of somebody who can do so, please put them in touch with us. Sponsorship of lunch can either be from catering by The Wild Fig or by outside caterers. It is up to you. 24, Apple, CITI - where are you?

It is a Monday evneing and I’ve just responded to an e-mail from Doug Kaye from the Conversations Network.  This guy has been involved in podcasting since day 1, so it was quite an honor to receive a msg from him, but more on that laaaater on.

PodCampCapeTown organising is going well.  I am pround to announce that we’ll all know whose who in the zoo thanks to Zoopy who are not only going to cover the venue costs, but also organize lanyards with name tags too.   Really great.  And we’ll have some t-shirts to give away too from Rudra Clothing - plus they will be offering all attendees a free t-shirt when they purchase two shirts from their online store. Attendees must quote PodCampCapeTown attendee on their order form to qualify for this deal.

Please, we still need some help with specifics that we need sponsored like the costs for hiring the PA system, etc.  Please check out the “Sponsors” page for more info as well a list of who is going to help to make this a great event.

On a different note …

A couple of weeks ago I was made aware that the 20th of October also falls on the day that the Rugby World Cup final is played.  I could not believe that I didn’t think of that and figured that plans would need to be made to make watching the game (if SA was in the final, that is) watchable during PodCamp.

I was also very relieved that the final is only going to be played at 21:00 that evening.  Although I really enjoy watching the Boks play, I somehow couldn’t imagine the spirit of what our event is all about being put on hold while we scream for our team.  I don’t know, but I am very glad that the match is waaaay later.

So will SA be in the final?  We’ll have to see, but no matter what the outcome of next weekend’s semi-final is, we’ll still have a day full of New Media chatter and great networking and learning experiences.

We decided to get back onto Facebook with the PodCampCapeTown event. Decided to do this so to canvas and remind everybody about PodCamp, made sure that we do mention that you must sign up on the wiki … I still cannot believe that it is only 16 days away now?

Also if you want to put something up on this site, just let me know and I’ll give you access. You can also jot stuff down on the wiki too.

We are still looking for more sponsors and prefably financial so that we can cover costs and make sure you have an awesome day! We please need a PA system (mic, speakers, amp, etc), so if you can help us out with that or sponsor the moola to hire one, it would be awesome! We are looking for somebody to sponsor our morning coffee when we arrive, that is going to be around R600, as well as the printing of name tags, would love to have some t-shirts too and if you want to just give stuff away on the day too, that is also good.
